Další informace: Fiat Croma je jedním z nejzdařilejších modelů ve střední třídě. Zároveň je podstatně levnější než jeho proslulí „příbuzní“ Lancia Thema, Saab 9000 a Alfa Romeo 164. Croma má stylově jednotnou, pevnou karoserii, a přestože na první pohled vypadá jako sedan, jde ve skutečnosti o liftback. Tento typ karoserie se někdy nazývá dvaapůlobjemový a dnes ho můžeme vidět například na vozech Škoda Octavia. Splývavé linie italského designu v přední části karoserie stylisticky odpovídají modelům Uno a Tipo. V roce 1991 byl tento automobil zčásti omlazen – větší sklon přídě přidal vozu na modernosti. Větší zadní převis vyvolává dojem, že automobil je delší. Několik chromovaných součástek pak zdůrazňuje prestižní charakter Fiatu Croma.
Všechny čtyři automobily tohoto společného projektu jsou velmi dobře vybaveny. To, co ještě na začátku devadesátých let nabízely některé jiné firmy pouze za příplatek, patřilo v jejich případě do základní výbavy; jde například o nastavení sklonu sloupku volantu, centrální zamykání, ale také posilovač řízení. Za příplatek bylo možné objednat kožené potahy sedadel, klimatizační jednotku, ABS, elektrické polohování předních sedadel a elektrické ovládání oken.
Tento model se může pochlubit jedním prvenstvím. Jedná se o první vůz v Evropě, který byl vybaven vznětovým motorem s přímým vstřiováním nafty.
